Hackers hit FBI, leak 1 million Apple user IDs

The hacker group Anonymous has leaked more than 1 million Apple iPhone and iPad IDs, which it claims to have swiped from the FBI, but Ken Colburn with Data Doctors said there’s no reason for concern about personal information.

“Their whole point is to try to create awareness and questioning of the FBI as to why do you have these UDIDs, what are you using them for? said Colburn.

The FBI may have the unique device identifier number of iPhones or iPads owners. Those IDs help track a user’s browsing habits. The hackers said they stole the IDs from a federal agent’s laptop.

“You have to remember you gave up this information a long time ago when you loaded these apps and used this process on your phone or iPad, so this is not new information.”

Data Doctors is providing step-by-step instructions on how to check if a device has been compromised at their Facebook page.

The FBI released this statement that said it was aware of the reports, but they were false.
