Guess who’s going to the Super Bowl? Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers

PHOENIX — These seats are taken.

Nearly a week after casually mentioning that he didn’t have tickets to the Super Bowl his city was hosting, Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers was presented with a pair of tickets to the NFL title game Thursday night.

The tickets were presented to Weiers by Mitchell Modell, CEO of East Coast-based Modell’s Sporting Goods.

Weiers said he and his wife would donate the value of the tickets to one of their favorite charities, the Shriners’ Transportation Fund.

The mayor told KTAR’s Bruce St. James and Pamela Hughes earlier this month that he wasn’t going to the game during a discussion of how much the bowl game would cost his city.
