PHOENIX — The Federal Aviation Administration issued multiple ground stops at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on Thursday due to rain.
The most recent stop was issued for departures from seven different airports coming into Sky Harbor. It was in effect from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. due to thunderstorms.
The flights were coming from areas that included San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver, Albuquerque, St. Louis, Dallas and Houston.
A stop was issued earlier in the day for just the Albuquerque area. It was in effect from 2:45 to 4 p.m.
Its affected area included central and eastern Arizona, most of New Mexico and parts of Texas.
More than 260 flights were delayed at Sky Harbor as of about 6:20 p.m., according to FlightAware.com.
Phoenix received an estimated 0.01 inches of measurable rainfall near its airport on Thursday, but heavy rain was expected throughout the end of the week and into the weekend due to remnants of Hurricane Priscilla.

No. Sky Harbor had inadequate air tower staffing to manage the flight volume in these conditions. PHX is short air traffic controllers and is experiencing high callout rates as Trump threatens to fire them off unless personal health insurance premiums are allowed to spike next month.
