Man dies after falling more than 100 feet in Grand Canyon National Park

PHOENIX — A man has died after he fell more than 100 feet into the Grand Canyon on Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

The 65-year-old man slipped and fell into the canyon at Guano Point, which is on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, near the West Skywalk, according to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO).

Deputies were called to the area around 2 p.m. to assist the Hualapai Nation with a technical recovery, MCSO said.

They discovered that the man had fallen over the edge of the canyon and died.

A search and rescue team then descended into the canyon and recovered the man’s body, which was then transferred to the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Bureau of Indian Affairs police, the Hualapai Nation Fire Department and Grand Canyon West security assisted in the recovery.

The identity of the man was not released.
