Grand Avenue/US 60 reopened in Glendale after fatal crash

PHOENIX – Grand Avenue/U.S. 60 was closed in Glendale for about eight hours Wednesday after a fatal multi-vehicle crash, authorities said.

Grand was closed in both directions at Myrtle Avenue, between Glendale and Northern avenues, around 7 a.m., the Arizona Department of Transportation said.

The westbound lanes of Grand reopened around 2:30 p.m. and both sides opened around 3:15 p.m., ADOT said.

The Glendale Police Department said four vehicles, including a motorcycle, and six people were involved in the collision.

The early stages of the investigation found that a Nissan Altima heading northwest on Grand hit a Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling in the opposite direction, police said. A motorcycle and a Chevy Equinox were caught up in the collision.

A woman who was in the backseat of the Nissan, which had three occupants, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The motorcycle rider, who was wearing a helmet, was hospitalized in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

Four other people were taken to a hospital with unspecified injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening.

Motorists were advised to use 67th and 59th avenues for north-south detours and Glendale and Northern avenues for east-west travel through the area.
