Fatal crash closes stretch of Grand Avenue in Phoenix for several hours

PHOENIX – A stretch of Grand Avenue in Phoenix was closed for several hours after a fatal collision during Tuesday morning rush hour, authorities said.
Two adults were killed when a car traveling at a high rate of speed hit a semi-truck around 7 a.m., according to the Phoenix Police Department. The truck driver was hospitalized with minor injuries.
Authorities released the identities of both adults as 28-year-old Aaron Soto and 28-year Angel Loera.
On-site witnesses told authorities the car was speeding before it rear-ended the semitruck, which was turning left on to 33rd Avenue.
Phoenix police confirmed the surviving driver did not show sign of impairment.
Both directions of Grand Avenue were closed in the area of 33rd Avenue after the crash until 2:30 p.m.
Motorists were advised to use 35th Avenue or Indian School Road as detours.
