Gov. Doug Ducey, other leaders officially welcome Super Bowl XLIX

PHOENIX — Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey officially welcomed the NFL and the Super Bowl to the state Monday, as the clock continued to tick down to the pro football title game in suburban Phoenix.

Super Bowl XLIX is Sunday at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale. Ducey said that Arizona was looking forward to an exciting week.

“For the next seven days Arizona truly is the center of the universe and we’re going to put on a great show,” Ducey said.

“I’m excited and I know we’re going to put on a great performance for everyone but I really want to congratulate the NFL, (Arizona Cardinals president) Michael Bidwill and the Super Bowl Host Committee for doing an awesome job,” he said.

State, bowl, NFL and Arizona Cardinals officials gathered for the welcome in downtown Phoenix.

Bidwill said the championship festivities were a great opportunity for the state to showcase itself, even though he was disappointed his team wasn’t playing in the game in its home stadium.
