Goodwill opening East Valley clearance center with shopping by the pound

PHOENIX — The first Goodwill clearance center in the East Valley will open on Thursday.

At the new store, thrifters will have the opportunity to search through donation bins instead of shopping in a traditional retail setting. Items will be sold by the pound, which Goodwill says allows shoppers to shop in a more sustainable and cost-effective manner.

The store, located in Chandler near Arizona Avenue and Ray Road, will be open each day from 9 a.m. to 9 pm.

The new location will be the second Goodwill clearance store in the Valley after the location in west Phoenix on 51st Avenue and Van Buren Street.

Both locations are considered part of the Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona branch, which was founded in 1947.

Profits from the stores will support the nonprofit’s mission, which includes career development, training and community education initiatives across Arizona.
