GoDaddy, SRP, 2 more Arizona employers make best diversity list

PHOENIX – Four Arizona employers, including a public university, have been named to Forbes’ list of best workplace diversity of 2020.

Scottsdale-based internet giant GoDaddy, the University of Arizona in Tucson, mining corporation Freeport McMoRan of Phoenix and public utility Salt River Project in Tempe all made the third annual lineup of 500, which was released last week.

GoDaddy finished highest among the four, at No. 138. UArizona came in at No. 241; Freeport-McMoRan was No. 458; SRP rounded out the group at No. 464.

In a tweet posted Wednesday, GoDaddy said it was honored to have made the list.

“Fostering a culture of diversity and inclusivity in the workplace is extremely important to us,” the company founded by Bob Parsons said.

“Not only does it make for good business, but it’s just the right thing to do.”

Only 30 institutions of higher learning made the cut.

“Reaching our goal of a world where all people can achieve their potential, and where we all work together to solve our most pressing challenges, is only possible if we live our core values of inclusion and compassion every day,” UArizona President Robert C. Robbins said in a statement released Wednesday.

The school said according to 2019 numbers, 54% of its employees were women and about 26% of all employees were Hispanic or Latino.

Forbes and data experts Statista surveyed 60,000 employees. Companies had to have at least 1,000 workers. The anonymous polling asked participants to rate their workplace on age, ethnicity, gender, disability and sexual orientation issues and diversity in general.

The magazine explained the methodology, saying the responses “were reviewed for potential diversity gaps.

“So if workers from minority groups, for example, rated an organization poorly on diversity, but nonminority groups rated it highly, Statista would take that into account and adjust the company’s score accordingly. Statista then asked respondents belonging to minority groups to nominate organizations other than their own.”
