Glendale officers involved in fatal shooting of man suspected of killing his brother

A man who fatally shot his brother in Glendale died after a shooting involving police in Surprise on Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Before police caught up to him, 64-year-old Terry Landos shot his younger brother at the family home near 59th Avenue and Cactus Road in Glendale, the Glendale Police Department said.

The brother, 54-year-old Steven Landos, was found dead in his bedroom, according to Sgt. Justin Ramsay.

The mother, who lived at the house with Terry and Steven, made the 911 call, Ramsay said.

“The mother is actually our witness,” Ramsay told reporters. “The mother is being offered resources and had to endure this entire thing.”

Ramsay added that investigators currently believe a quarrel between the brothers led up to the shooting.

How did the domestic dispute escalate into a shooting involving police?

Police responded to a report of the domestic shooting around 7 a.m., Ramsay said.

After the domestic dispute, Terry Landos drove away from the scene, and police said they found him around 10 minutes from the house in Surprise.

“Our detectives attempted to make contact with Terry in a wash area near 163rd Avenue and Grand, where we found him armed in a handgun and were involved in an officer-involved shooting at that time,” Ramsay said.

Officers then fatally shot him. Police originally described his injuries as critical but have since said he died from his injuries.

No officers were injured in the shooting.

The West Valley Incident Response Team is investigating the police shooting.
