PHOENIX — There will be more gooey goodness in metro Phoenix in the next few months, when deep-dish pizza server Giordano’s expands to a second location.

The pizza restaurant chain said this week it would officially open its location near Tatum Boulevard and Cactus Road on Sept. 5. A soft opening will take place on Aug. 14.

A sign had been hanging on the building across the street from the Paradise Valley Mall announcing its imminent arrival in February.

Giordano’s opened its first Arizona location at 83rd Avenue and Bell Road in December 2016.

That happened during a spate of Midwestern pizza spots opening around the Valley.

Chicago rival Lou Malnati’s opened at Camelback Road and Central Avenue in Phoenix in May 2016.

By late April 2017, Gino’s East had launched at 36th Street and Indian School Road.

Giordano’s put out feelers in the local market four years ago.

The restaurant sent a food truck to Cactus League games in Mesa. It was the first time the 28-foot-long truck had ever left Illinois, venturing 1,700 miles to set up at the spring home of the Chicago Cubs.

The pizza makers have sites in seven states.
