Gilbert student accused of bringing gun to school, residential burglary

PHOENIX – A Gilbert student who was arrested Tuesday for allegedly possessing a gun on a high school campus is also suspected in a recent burglary, authorities said.

Highland High School was placed on lockdown around 11 a.m. Tuesday after students reported that a 17-year-old boy was seen with a handgun, according to the Gilbert Police Department.

Officers responded to the campus near Guadalupe and Recker roads and quickly located the suspect in a nearby neighborhood and took him into custody.

They also found a gun while canvassing the area. The school lockdown was lifted around noon.

During the investigation, police received information connecting the teen to an April 12 residential burglary in Gilbert.

Gilbert student faces multiple charges

Police said the suspect was booked into Durango Juvenile Center on the following counts:

• Minor prohibited from carrying or possessing a firearm.
• Firearm on school ground.
• Possession of defaced firearm.
• Disruption of educational institute.
• Disorderly conduct.
• Burglary.
