Gilbert unveils wide-ranging plan for next phase of Desert Sky Park

PHOENIX — The town of Gilbert announced plans for the second phase of its Desert Sky Park, which is located near Power and Williams Field roads.

The recreational area currently offers a lake, ninja warrior course and four multipurpose fields. It is set to add another field, a splash pad, two playgrounds, eight pickleball courts and more, according to a Tuesday press release.

Construction is estimated to begin before the end of 2025, according to Gilbert Parks and Recreation.

It will take approximately two years to complete the next phase.

Once phase two is complete, the park will offer the following to the public:

• Five multi-use fields
• One splash pad
• Two playgrounds
• Eight pickleball courts (with shade pavilion)
• Two sand volleyball courts (with shade canopy)
• One tennis court
• One basketball court
• A dog running area
• Two restroom buildings
• Three entry points
• More parking spots

Kylie Sorensen, manager of Gilbert Parks and Recreation, said the coming expansion is “a reflection of how much we’ve grown and listened.”

“Through the community engagement process, we heard from residents about the amenities that matter most to them,” Sorensen said in the release. “That input helped shape these plans, including the addition of sport courts, which weren’t part of the original vision. We’re building something that truly belongs to everyone, and I couldn’t be more excited to see this next chapter come to life.”

Desert Sky Park, which sits on 110 acres of land, opened in the fall of 2019.
