Gilbert channels Lin-Manuel Miranda to remind residents about voting

The town of Gilbert channeled Lin-Manuel Miranda to remind residents not to throw away their votes in the upcoming primary election.

PHOENIX — The town of Gilbert channeled Lin-Manuel Miranda to remind residents not to throw away their votes in the upcoming primary election.

The East Valley suburb teamed up with performers from the town’s Center Stage Academy of the Arts to produce a song-and-dance video to the tune of “My Shot” from Miranda’s Broadway smash “Hamilton: An American Musical.”

The song’s iconic chorus was altered to “I am not throwin’ away my vote” for the video, which was posted to Gilbert’s social media accounts Thursday.

The Twitter video had more than 3,500 views by Friday morning.

That number could skyrocket if Miranda, who was tagged on the post, replies to the town’s request for a critique.

If the social media-savvy writer/actor does show some love to Gilbert, he wouldn’t be the first superstar performer to do so.

In May, the town produced a video with officials and residents dancing to Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling” and got a retweet from the singer.
