PHOENIX — In honor of “Waitress” being first on the menu for the upcoming Broadway season, ASU Gammage is serving up a pie contest — with opening night tickets as the top prize.
Musical lovers who know their way around the kitchen can submit their original pie recipes with photos here by Aug. 10.
Finalists will be notified Aug. 15 and asked to bring a freshly baked pie for live judging Aug. 20. Pies must be made from scratch.
The winning baker will get four tickets to the Oct. 2 performance of “Waitress.”
In addition, the winning recipe will be published in the “Gammbill” program and a copy will be inserted into the “Waitress” cookbook for sale at the merchandise stand.
If you don’t think you have the baking chops to win, single tickets for “Waitress” go on sale Aug. 13.
The first show of Gammage’s 2018-19 Broadway season runs Oct. 2-7.
Featuring songs written by Sara Bareilles, “Waitress” was inspired by the movie of the same name about a baking contest that changed the life of a small-town waitress.
Season tickets for the series are already available.
Other shows on the schedule are “On Your Feet,” “Dear Evan Hansen,” “Hello, Dolly,” “Aladdin,” “The Play That Goes Wrong” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”
“Rent,” “Wicked” and “The Book of Mormon” are offered as season options.
