Funeral services set for DPS pilot, trooper who died in helicopter crash while helping Flagstaff police

PHOENIX — Funeral services have been set for the Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper and pilot who died when their helicopter crashed in northern Arizona earlier this month.

Robert Bruce Skankey, a pilot, and Hunter R. Bennett, a trooper paramedic, died on Feb. 4 while assisting the Flagstaff Police Department with a domestic violence suspect.

The suspect, Terrell Storey, was allegedly moving across rooftops in a neighborhood and opening fire on law enforcement.

Skankey and Bennett were on the scene to provide police with tactical air support. Investigators have not yet determined what caused their helicopter to crash.

Where will funeral services for DPS pilot, paramedic be held?

Skankey’s services will start at 11 a.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 610 Eastern St. in Kingman. Parking at the church will be restricted to placarded vehicles. All other attendees will have to park at Hualapai Elementary School, which will also provide overflow seating for the service.

Bennett’s funeral services will take place Monday at 10 a.m. at Mission Church at 4450 E. Elliot Road in Gilbert. Placarded vehicles will have a designated parking area, and additional parking on church property will be “extremely limited,” according to DPS.

Additionally, other off-site parking options will be restricted due to another event taking place in the area.
