Wanted fugitive dead in Maricopa shooting involving US Marshals

PHOENIX — A fugitive wanted by U.S. Marshals Service is dead after a Thursday night shooting in Maricopa, authorities said.

The unidentified fugitive at the time of the deadly shooting was on federal probation with a charge of possession with intent to distribute.

No officers with the U.S. Marshals Service WANTED Task Force were injured in the Maricopa shooting.

Officers found the fugitive inside of a home and attempted to apprehend the fugitive once they entered a nearby parked vehicle.

The fugitive then pulled out a gun when the officers reached the vehicle and guns were fired toward them. They were struck by gunfire and died from their wounds, according to authorities.

The FBI is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
