Franklin Clifton receives death penalty for killing woman in Phoenix in 2014

PHOENIX – A man convicted of killing a woman in Phoenix over a decade ago was sentenced to death last week, authorities said.
Franklin Clifton received the death penalty on Thursday for the 2014 murder of Olivia Hernandez, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors say Clifton shot Hernandez and another woman near 27th Avenue and Camelback Road in October 2014. The second victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds but survived.
A jury found Clifton guilty of first-degree murder, attempt to commit first-degree murder and kidnapping on Jan. 10.
In addition to the death penalty for the first-degree murder charge, he was sentenced to 23 years for each of the other two convictions.
Clifton is one of 109 inmates currently on death row in Arizona.
