Forecast calls for wet Christmas for Phoenix, white Christmas up north

PHOENIX — It looks like Phoenix will have a wet Christmas while northern Arizona experiences a white Christmas with storm systems coming through the state over the holiday weekend.

Parts of Phoenix could get up to an inch of rain between Thursday night and Sunday morning.

“Most of the rain should fall Friday and maybe Saturday morning,” Andrew Deemer, a National Weather Service meteorologist, told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Wednesday.

The chances top out a 70% for Christmas Eve on Friday and remain at 50% for Christmas Day.

Saturday’s high is expected to be 65 degrees, down three degrees from Friday’s high of 68 and up three degrees from Sunday’s high of 62. Thursday will see a balmy high of 74 degrees.

Lows throughout the weekend will fluctuate between 50 and 56 degrees.

Up north, Flagstaff could get Christmas snow. Saturday’s high is expected to be 40 degrees with a low of 24 degrees and a 50% chance of precipitation.

The North Rim of the Grand Canyon has a Christmas high of 40 degrees, a low of 27 degrees and a 40% chance of rain or snow.

Prescott, Payson and Sedona also have precipitation chances over the holiday weekend.
