Folk and Heritage Festival to take place at Sahuaro Ranch in Glendale this weekend

PHOENIX — A celebration of Arizona’s lore and culture will take place this weekend in Glendale with the 32nd annual Folk and Heritage Festival.

The free event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at Sahuaro Ranch on 59th Avenue and Mountain View Road, the city of Glendale said in a press release.

More than 400 performers will be showcased on six stages throughout the park, featuring folk and bluegrass music, scattered jam sessions and authentic storytelling.

There will also be a workshop where attendees can learn to play spoons, saws, ukuleles, harmonicas, swing guitar, pennywhistle, jug band, skiffle music, autoharps and more, the city said.

Meanwhile, kids can enjoy activities like face painting and crafts, as well as a space where they can experiment with multiple instruments.

A plein air painting competition will also take place on Saturday, which is open to artists ages 18 and older who paint oil, watercolor, acrylic or pastel.

Food and refreshments will be available for purchase. While there will be some seating, the city encourages people to bring their own lawn chairs or picnic blankets.

The Glendale special events team produces the festival, the city said, with help from the Glendale Main Library and the Glendale Public Art Program.
