PHOENIX — Family time, good food and fireworks.
Those are usually the three ingredients needed for anybody looking to have a perfect celebration of the Fourth of July.
Some towns go above and beyond, however, and offer much more than just those three things. One website said that a place in Arizona would certainly qualify as one of those towns.
Travel + Leisure named Flagstaff the best place in America to celebrate the Fourth of July.
With its ponderosa pines, frontier spirit, and easy access to the Grand Canyon, this Arizona town won the medal of honor in T+L’s Independence Day contest. Flagstaff also made the top 10 for its town squares, and the centerpiece of its July 4th celebration is a parade through downtown—along with fireworks, a fun run, a concert by the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra, and “Flagstaff Art in the Park,” a juried art and fine crafts show in downtown’s Wheeler Park. Flagstaff won high marks in the survey for its parks and hosts a downtown Art Walk monthly.
The travel website held a vote on favorite towns to celebrate Independence Day, so it’s really the majority of people who think the town, which sits about 150 miles north of Phoenix, is tops.
Although it was the only town named in Travel + Leisure’s top 20 list, there are plenty of other great places in the state to have a great Fourth of July.

Of all the years I spent growing up there, I don't remember ever watching a 4th of July anything in Flag. But then, in the 1980s and early 1990s, Flag was still relatively small and laid back. The Californians and easterners from their big cities rolled in. Inflation went through the roof and ruined the town for the average resident. Population has increased 75% since the early 90s. Nearly every hometown Flag resident I know moved out. Goodbye small town feeling Flag, *sniff*.
What a bunch of BS !! Between the stinky Liberals the angry/drunken Native Americans and the Firework restrictions, Flagstaff is that last place I would want to celibate our nations independence !!
