Fireworks ban issued for Apache Junction area during fire restrictions

PHOENIX — Authorities imposed a ban on fireworks sales and use in Apache Junction and surrounding areas, effective immediately.

The Superstition Fire and Medical District issued the ban on Thursday, forbidding public firework sales and permits while Stage I or higher fire restrictions are in place.

Stage I restrictions are currently active and are not expected to end until Aug. 30.

Fireworks that are strictly prohibited include firecrackers, Roman candles, bottle and sky rockets, any aerials that discharge in the air, ground-based and wheel sparkling devices, and Chinese paper lanterns.

However, de-regulated fireworks will still be acceptable.

Those permitted are hand-held sparklers (wire-stick sparklers and morning glories), smoke devices (cones, candles and cylindrical) and novelties such as snakes, snappers, drop pops and party poppers.

The 4th of July fireworks show put on by the city of Apache Junction is still expected to take place as scheduled.
