Firefighters find 2 bodies after putting out blaze at Tempe house

PHOENIX – First responders in Tempe said two people were found dead in a house fire early Monday.

Crews from three Valley fire departments battled the blaze near Southern Avenue and Priest Drive starting around 1:30 a.m.

Tempe Fire Medical Rescue Department said in an email that when firefighters arrived flames were bursting out of the windows, forcing crews to hose down the home from only the outside.

After the blaze was out, firefighters discovered the bodies of two adults, but they have not been officially identified.

Neighbors told authorities an elderly woman and her adult daughter lived in the house.

A Tempe fire department spokeswoman said there didn’t seem to be working smoke detectors in the house.

Cause of the fire is under investigation.

Units from the Guadalupe Fire Department and Phoenix Fire Department were also on hand.

No other details were made available.
