Fight in Phoenix ends with 1 man dead, another behind bars

Josiah Mahape, 28, was booked into jail on a second-degree murder charge in connection with a fatal fight, police said. His bond is $1 million.

A fight between two men at a Phoenix apartment complex left one dead and another arrested Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Phoenix police responded to reports of a fight near 40th Street and McDowell Road shortly before 3:45 a.m. and found 40-year-old George Fuentes, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect, 28-year-old Josiah Mahape, fled through a rear window before officers arrived, according to the Phoenix Police Department. He was found nearby and arrested.

Mahape later told detectives he had gotten into a fight with Fuentes before Fuentes became unresponsive, police said. The two knew each other before the fight.

Mahape was booked into jail on suspicion of second-degree murder. His bond was set at $1 million.
