FBI report says Florence safest city in Arizona
The city that's home to Arizona's most dangerous criminals is also the safest city in the state.
PHOENIX — The city that’s home to Arizona’s most dangerous criminals is also the safest city in the state.
Killers, criminals and correction officers all call Florence, Ariz., home. The state’s death row population and many thousands of other violent criminals are housed in several penitentiaries located in the city.
On the other side of those prison bars, however, the city has one of the lowest crime rates in Arizona.
A new survey using FBI statistics on violent crimes and property crimes within more than 100 Arizona cities, found Florence is safer than 78 percent of cities in the United States.
With a population nearing of 25,795, Florence averages less than 30 violent crimes a year. That translates to 1.12 violent crimes and 8.68 property crimes per 1,000 people.
Scottsdale was one of the only major cities in the state that came close, with about 1.47 violent crimes per 1,000 people.
Phoenix had a ratio of nearly 6.4 violent crimes, while Tucson’s violent crime ratio was one of the highest with 7.24.
