28-year-old man accused of fatally shooting his father in north Phoenix

A 28-year-old man is behind bars and his father is dead after an argument led to a shooting in north Phoenix early Tuesday, authorities said.

Officers responded to a shooting call at a home near North Valley Parkway and Dove Valley Road about 12:40 a.m., according to the Phoenix Police Department.

They surrounded the residence, told all occupants to exit, and took Joseph Gabriel Peixotto into custody when he came out.

Police then went inside and found his father, Joseph Elmer Peixotto, suffering from a gunshot wound. Fire department responders arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene.

The son was taken to police headquarters to be interviewed and then booked into jail on one count of second-degree murder. His bond was set at $1 million.

“Preliminary information suggests the two men, who were father and son, were in a verbal argument when 28-year-old Joseph Gabriel Peixotto shot 50-year-old Joseph Elmer Peixotto,” Sgt. Lorraine Fernandez said in a media advisory.
