PHOENIX — A tractor-trailer rolled over on Interstate 10 outside of Phoenix early Thursday morning, killing the driver.

The wreck shut down part of the freeway’s eastbound lanes near Eloy, between Phoenix and Tucson, the Arizona Department of Transportation said.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said the rig carrying dairy products was heading west when it strayed into the median near milepost 211.

The trailer rolled and ejected the driver. He wasn’t wearing a seat belt, authorities said.

DPS was diverting traffic to frontage roads.

Westbound lanes were open but eastbound lanes were closed for hours. ADOT said the backup was 4-5 miles long after reopening around 8:30 a.m.
