Buckeye police arrest alleged getaway driver in fatal shooting of pregnant 16-year-old

A man accused of helping a suspected gunman evade police after a fatal shooting in Buckeye was arrested Sunday, authorities said.

Buckeye police said 19-year-old Antonio Enrique Tequida drove the suspect, 18-year-old Michael Sanchez, to the scene of the May 14 shooting and later helped him get away.

Sanchez is accused of fatally shooting his 16-year-old girlfriend, Rylee Montgomery, near Warner Street and Miller Road, according to the Buckeye Police Department.

Two other female victims who were with Montgomery — a 22-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl who was also pregnant — were critically injured.

Investigators said Tequida later drove Sanchez to a friend’s house to help him avoid law enforcement.

Sanchez was arrested after a SWAT situation near Dysart Road and MC 85 in Avondale and booked into jail on multiple counts, including first-degree murder.

Tequida was booked one a charge of hindering prosecution.
