Woman arrested in fatal Phoenix hit-and-run allegedly ran over date who called her a catfish

Court records for a 30-year-old woman booked on murder charges in a fatal hit-and-run show that she and the victim had been on a date before the crash.

Mikela Bahe, 30, is accused of intentionally running over 52-year-old Norris Taft on May 3, causing fatal injuries.

Taft sent a text message saying he had been “catfished” by his date before the fatal collision, according to the probable cause statement for Bahe’s arrest.

What happened before fatal hit-and-run on first date?

The two had met on a social networking app called Moco, and Taft picked Bahe up at a Dunkin’ around 11:20 a.m. before driving her to shop at a Curaleaf dispensary, the arrest report says.

They drove to the Bridgewater Apartments at 16th Street and Maryland Avenue around 1:15 p.m. Taft was driving a Cadillac Escalade.

The arrest report cites security footage from the apartment complex that shows a woman emerging from the apartment complex and entering a black Cadillac Escalade. Then, Taft seems to step in front of the slowly moving SUV, holding his arms out as if indicating he wanted it to stop.

However, the SUV accelerated forward, striking Taft, who fell to the ground and was dragged under the vehicle.

“The vehicle continued to drive westbound in the parking lot, driving over the victim, and then fled northbound out of the parking lot,” the arrest records say.

Suspect in fatal hit-and-run arrested in Flagstaff

Bahe was arrested in Flagstaff on May 6 and brought back to Phoenix.

She allegedly told investigators she had no memory of what happened after leaving the dispensary until the following morning.

After investigators showed her a video of the incident and related surveillance footage, she again said she did not remember what happened.

The arrest report says Bahe called her mother and said she messed up and was going to prison for a while.

Bahe was booked into jail on counts of second-degree murder, vehicle theft and leaving the scene of an accident with injury or death. Her bond was set at $1 million.

Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Friday.
