1 dead, 1 critically injured in head-on car crash in Mesa

One person is dead and another critically injured after a pickup truck and an industrial vehicle collided head-on in Mesa, authorities said.

The wreck happened near Broadway and Extension roads just after 11:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Fire crews from two ladder companies worked to rescue those trapped in the wreckage. One adult was pronounced dead at the scene. A second person had critical injuries and was taken to a local trauma center.

Broadway Road was closed in both directions near Extension Road during the emergency response and investigation.

The identities of those involved were not provided. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
