Phoenix police arrest suspect in fatal 2017 stabbing after his extradition from Mexico

PHOENIX — The suspect of a fatal stabbing that took place in Phoenix eight years ago has finally been captured, police announced Thursday.

Michael Anthony Arredondo, 34, is suspected of killing a man in a desert area near Cave Creek and Pinnacle Peak roads on June 3, 2017, the Phoenix Police Department said.

He allegedly fled to Mexico, where local authorities took him into custody on Sept. 25 of this year. They transferred him into the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.

One day later, detectives with the Phoenix Police Department traveled to speak with him. During this interview, Arredondo allegedly confessed to fatally stabbing 25-year-old Evin Paulos, police said.

He was brought to Phoenix on Wednesday.

Arredondo is currently being held on a $1.5 million bond.

Police have not shared any details about the motivation behind the fatal 2017 stabbing.

However, authorities said further information about the case will be forthcoming.
