Experts predicting above-average precipitation for Arizona this fall

PHOENIX — The National Weather Service said it is predicting above-average levels of precipitation for Arizona and the Southwest this fall.

In a tweet, the weather service said there is a 40 percent chance of above-normal precipitation for Arizona and surrounding regions for the month of September. The same probability carries over for the service’s three-month outlook through November.

This Labor Day weekend also carries a 40 percent chance of above-normal precipitation for most of Arizona, while the rest of the state comes in to a 30 percent probability.

Parts of the East Coast ranging from Pennsylvania to Florida are expected to see above-average precipitation in the next month, but that dwindles to just a few Southern states for the three-month outlook.

Parts of the Pacific Northwest are predicted to have a 30 to 40 percent chance of below-normal precipitation.

These numbers come after reports of an already rainy season for the Valley. The weather service said that Phoenix is 22 percent ahead of its 30-year monsoon rainfall average as of Sunday.
