PHOENIX — Valley art and military supporters will get a chance to see in person what former President George W. Bush has been up to when an exhibit of his paintings comes to town in the fall.

“Portraits of Courage: A Commander in Chief’s Tribute to America’s Warriors” will be on display at Arizona Heritage Center at Papago Park in Tempe from Oct. 19 to Dec. 29.

Tempe will be only the fourth U.S. city to host the paintings this year.

The exhibition features 66 portraits and a four-panel mural of service members and veterans painted by the 43rd president.

Each painting is accompanied by the story of the subject, as written by the artist. The warriors depicted all served the United States since the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Ticket will cost $12 for adults, $10 for seniors 65 and older, $8 for children ages 7-17 and free for kids 6 and under. Arizona Historical Society members, military and veterans can get in for free.

Two-for-one admissions will be offered on the first Tuesday of each month, Nov. 6 and Dec. 4.

The paintings featured are also included in the book of the same name, which was released in 2017.

All book profits go to the George W. Bush Presidential Center, which has a program to help veterans transition from the military to civilian life. Information about the program will be presented with the paintings.

The Tempe exhibit will be hosted by the Arizona Historical Society, the George W. Bush Institute and the Sandra Day O’Connor Institute.
