PHOENIX — A New York-based industrial and rehabilitation equipment manufacturer announced Tuesday it was expanding into the Phoenix area.

The Gorbel facility in Goodyear was projected to create nearly 30 jobs during its first phase, with a capital investment of more than $1 million, according to the company’s news release.

“Gorbel’s national and international presence in the industrial sector is a great addition to the Phoenix Goodyear Airport area that will help revitalize this employment center,” Goodyear Mayor Georgia Lord said in the release. “It now joins a list of many other successful companies in the region.”

The Goodyear operation will be Gorbel’s fourth manufacturing facility, joining the headquarters in Fishers Run, New York, and locations in Alabama and China.

Gorbel, which was founded in 1977, manufactures crane technology and fall-protection products for the industrial sector and ergonomic lifting devices for the rehabilitation field.

The company produces a mobility trainer that helps patients recovering from strokes, spinal cord injuries, amputations and traumatic brain injuries learn to walk again.

The Goodyear location was selected over sites in Utah and Nevada to serve the Southwest region.

“Our mission is simply to improve people’s lives,” Brian Reh, Gorbel president and CEO, said in the release. “And we believe that this customer-focused expansion will do just that by bringing production of our ergonomic lifting and safety solutions closer to current and future end users.”
