PHOENIX – An e-bike rider died after a collision near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on Friday morning, authorities said.
The e-bike and a vehicle collided near 24th Street and Sky Harbor Circle, just west of the airport, around 3:30 a.m., according to the Phoenix Police Department.
The man who was riding the e-bike was pronounced dead after he was taken to a hospital. He was identified later as 54-year-old Derrin J. Weber.
The driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment, police said.
“Preliminary information indicates Weber was traveling southbound on 24th Street in the dedicated right turn lane when he disregarded the traffic signal and continued south through the intersection, where he was struck by the vehicle,” Sgt. Lorraine Fernandez said in a media advisory.
