Dry, hot weather returning to Phoenix area with 110 degrees likely Thursday

PHOENIX – It was nice while it lasted. The below-normal August temperatures that came with recent monsoon storm activity in metro Phoenix are being replaced by sizzling heat later this week.

“Anytime Wednesday through Friday we could be 110 [degrees],” National Weather Service Phoenix meteorologist Chris Kuhlman told KTAR News 92.3 FM early Monday.

“If we overachieve a little bit, it might be closer to 112.”

The weather service predicted Monday likely would top out at 105 degrees and likeliest to hit 110 or higher Thursday.

The last time it was 110 degrees, Aug. 3-4, the weather service issued an excessive heat warning.

Before the burn returns, let’s appreciate this: Through Sunday, the Valley had logged 14 straight days of highs well under average.

Local temperatures in August have averaged 91.5 degrees, a whopping 7½ degrees cooler than this time a year ago.

Chance of rain this week is low, forecasters said, about 20% Saturday night, but Sunday will be mostly bright and definitely hot.

“Next week might be next real possibility of decent storm chances,” Kuhlman said.
