Drivers may have to slow down for a bit of construction on I-10, but otherwise it’s another weekend clear of freeway restrictions across the Phoenix area.

PHOENIX – Drivers may have to slow down for a bit of construction on Interstate 10 in the East Valley, but otherwise it’s another weekend clear of freeway restrictions across the Phoenix area.

I-10 will be narrowed to three lanes in each direction near Elliot Road in both directions from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday for center barrier repairs. The left two lanes will be closed each way.

But the Arizona Department of Transportation didn’t schedule any other maintenance projects this weekend.

Valley drivers haven’t had much weekend freeway construction to deal with since the Thanksgiving holiday.

On Wednesday, state and local officials were busy at a ceremony celebrating the pending completion of the largest single freeway project in Arizona history, the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway.

The 22-mile highway connects Interstate 10 from the Loop 202 Santan Freeway in the East Valley to I-10 at 59th Avenue in the West Valley, allowing drivers to bypass downtown Phoenix. It will open at an unspecified date before the end of the year, officials said.
