PHOENIX —  A driver led police officers on a high-speed chase across parts of the north Valley on Wednesday that ended with the driver dead.

The suspect, 25-year-old Todd Munson, was in a yellow Corvette and topped speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.

Munson drove north on Interstate 17 before turning around and heading back southbound.

He exited at Jomax Road and led police on a chase down some narrow roads — at times driving on the wrong side of the road and narrowly passing cars — before he was hit by an unmarked police vehicle. The collision occurred near North Valley Parkway and Dove Valley Road.

Police said officers at the scene fired their weapons after Munson pointed a handgun at them.

Munson was a suspect in the fatal shooting of a man in Ahwatukee earlier.

Officers received a call of a shooting around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday at an apartment complex in the Ahwatukee Foothills, where 40-year-old Nathan Cahal was found with at least one gunshot wound.

Cahal died at the scene.

Police believe Munson and Cahal were doing drugs together at the time of the shooting.

When police located Munson later in the day, he jumped a wall into an apartment complex near Bell Road and 63rd Avenue and was able to carjack a pickup truck at gunpoint.

He then drove the area of Seventh Avenue and Union Hills, where he carjacked the yellow Corvette at gunpoint.

After he stole the sports car, Munson pointed his gun at several people and demanded their cell phones.

The police officer who rammed into the stolen Corvette suffered minor injuries.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

The idiot driver is dead now, and that is great news. One less Moron in our society who thinks he can disobey the "poe-leece", and that Dirt Nap he received was his own choice.

Too bad about the poor car though, that "was" a sweet ride, such a shame.

BRAVO to the police and I'm glad nobody innocent got hurt!
