PHOENIX — A man suspected of driving under the influence was arrested after a pedestrian was killed Saturday night in Phoenix, authorities said.

The collision happened in the area of 83rd Avenue and Camelback Road around 11:20 p.m., the Phoenix Police Department said.

Juan Vasquez, 46, was found by officers suffering from critical injuries, police said. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.

What led up to the pedestrian DUI collision?

The driver, 48-year-old Alex Burks, was headed northbound on 83rd Avenue when he hit Vasquez, who was attempting to cross 83rd Avenue just south of Camelback Road, police said.
