Visitors parking legally in Downtown Mesa over the next few weeks might find a slip under their windshield wipers, but there is no need to panic, it isn’t a parking ticket.

Through early September, the district is handing out “Cloud Citations” to reward motorists who follow parking rules. Instead of demanding a fine, the mock tickets give drivers a chance to win Downtown Mesa merchandise, gift cards and prize packages from local businesses.

The campaign is designed as a playful nod to Arizona’s monsoon season while encouraging people to head downtown and support local shops, restaurants and venues.

How the campaign works

Random selection: Parking enforcement isn’t all bad news this month. Vehicles parked legally in designated spots throughout Downtown Mesa are chosen at random to receive a citation.

Easy entry: Drivers scan the QR code printed directly on the Cloud Citation to open an online entry form.

Biweekly drawings: Winners are selected every two weeks through early September to receive prize bundles packed with local goods and experiences.

Downtown Mesa officials hope the stormy-themed surprise turns typical summer weather into a bit of community fun, proving that following the rules can actually pay off.
