Phoenix police are investigating after a man was shot and killed in an alleged domestic incident in south Phoenix on Friday night.

PHOENIX — Phoenix police are investigating after a man was shot and killed in an alleged domestic incident in south Phoenix on Friday night.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded to an apartment near 32nd Street and Southern Avenue for reports of a threat around 11:25 p.m.

When police arrived on the scene, a woman was reportedly outside with her two children.

The woman told officers that she had shot her ex-boyfriend and he was still inside the apartment, police said.

Officers entered the apartment and found the man, later identified as Christopher Duran, 28, was unresponsive with a gunshot wound, according to Phoenix police.

The Phoenix Fire Department took Duran to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

What led to man being shot in south Phoenix?

Police said preliminary information suggests Duran and the woman’s relationship had recently ended and that he came over and forced his way into the apartment.

Afterwards, the woman reportedly later shot Duran before leaving to meet police.

According to Phoenix police, the woman has been released after the department consulted with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office on the case. A decision regarding charges will be made after the investigation is complete, police said.
