Digital water tower unveiled in downtown Peoria, pays homage to city history

PHOENIX — A 35-foot digitally-powered water tower that pays tribute to the city of Peoria’s “agricultural and railroad roots” is now operational.

It was lit up Tuesday by Mayor Jason Beck and is made up of a 360-degree LED measured at 13 feet around and 14.75 feet tall.

The tower will be primarily illuminated with a rotation of city logos, which can be seen during the day and at night. City officials can also change what is on display in real time, including city promotions, as the tower has 5G internet capabilities.

The city’s Historic Preservation Commission and Culture Commission aided in making sure the end product, which was first drafted in 2023, “reflects community values and identity,” according to a news release.

The $1,370,832 project sits across the way from the Caldwell County BBQ, which opened earlier in 2026, at US 60/Grand Avenue and Peoria Avenue. It sits close to where the town’s original water tower was located, which was constructed in 1889.
