Man arrested for allegedly killing ex-wife at Desert Ridge Marketplace

PHOENIX – A woman is dead and her ex-husband is in custody after a domestic violence shooting in a north Phoenix mall parking lot Wednesday night, authorities said.

Officers responded to a shooting call at Desert Ridge Marketplace, near Tatum Boulevard and Deer Valley Drive, around 9:40 p.m.

The gunshot victim, 39-year-old Jessica Shukers, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Police detained 38-year-old Justin Creed, Shukers’ ex-husband, and developed probable cause to book him on one count of first-degree murder.

What did police say about Desert Ridge Marketplace shooting?

“This homicide is considered to be domestic violence as the victim and suspect were previously married and are now divorced,” Sgt. Lorraine Fernandez said in a media advisory Thursday. “Any additional details remain a part of an ongoing investigation.”

According to ABC15, the shooting occurred outside the AMC movie theater at the sprawling outdoor shopping center.

The area was closed off overnight for the investigation but reopened Thursday morning.

It was the second shooting reported at Desert Ridge Marketplace this year. A woman was seriously injured there in a January incident.
