Democratic presidential hopeful Elizabeth Warren coming to Tempe

PHOENIX – Two nights after participating in the second round of Democratic presidential debates, top-tier candidate Elizabeth Warren will make her first Arizona appearance of the campaign.

The senator from Massachusetts has scheduled a town hall meeting for Thursday evening at the Marquee Theatre in Tempe.

The event begins at 6:15 p.m., with doors to the 2,500-capacity concert venue at Mill Avenue and Washington Street opening at 4:30 p.m.

Two days before her Phoenix-area appearance, Warren, one of the more liberal candidates seeking the nomination, will state her case along with nine other hopefuls in the first of two Democratic primary debates in Detroit.

Per the RealClearPolitics national polling average, Warren is running a strong third in the Democratic race at 14.5% percent, trailing only former Vice President Joe Biden at 29.3% and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders at 15%.

In the only Arizona poll recorded so far by poll-tracking website FiveThirtyEight.com, conducted by Zogby Interactive in May, before the first round of debates, Biden led with 35%, Sanders was second at 16% and Warren was third at 10%.

Warren was generally rated as one of the top performers during the first round of debates in June.

On Friday, Warren announced that she’d become the second Democratic candidate to collect 1 million donations.

Sanders reached that threshold in April.

Arizona will become the 25th state for Warren to visit since she started her campaign, according to Blog4President.us.
