Decomposing body found near Grand Canal in east Phoenix

PHOENIX – An investigation is underway after a decomposing body was found near the Grand Canal in east Phoenix on Monday, authorities said.

Officers responded to a call about deceased man near 36th and Portland streets around 11:45 a.m., according to the Phoenix Police Department.

The remains were found near the canal in the early stages of decomposition and with obvious signs of trauma, police said.

The man was identified as 48-year-old Efrin Victor Evangelista.
