Teen arrested in connection with deadly shooting near downtown Phoenix

PHOENIX – A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting near downtown Phoenix last month, authorities announced Wednesday.

The suspect, whose name was not released because he is a minor, was referred to the Juvenile Court Center, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Detectives have been working on the case since 45-year-old Porfirio Medina was shot and killed on Aug. 21.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting near Seventh Street and Buckeye Road around 10:45 p.m. and found Medina suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

The victim died after he was taken to a hospital.

No other information about the deadly shooting or arrest was provided.
