PHOENIX – A day after investigation began, authorities identified a suspect after a deadly shooting in north Phoenix on Wednesday night.

Officers were dispatched to a neighborhood near Beardsley Road and 19th Avenue, in the vicinity of Deer Valley Park, around 10 p.m. and found a man who’d been shot, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

The victim, 22-year-old Steven Laguna, died after being taken to a hospital. Homicide detectives took over the case.

On Thursday, detectives found and helped book into jail 20-year-old Nathan Calles.

Calles was booked for felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of stolen property and the sale of narcotic drugs, according to authorities.

Those with information about the case were asked to call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS (948-6377) or 480-TESTIGO (837-8446) for Spanish. Callers could remain anonymous, and tips that led to an arrest were eligible for a cash reward.
