Deadline to register for March special election in Phoenix is Monday

PHOENIX — Residents of Phoenix are bracing for a special run off election in March, but must register by Monday to be able to vote.

“There’s a deadline on Monday to register to vote for the upcoming March election for our mayor and city council,” Ben Lane, Deputy City Clerk said.

“We have a run off for mayor and also a special election for city council members in Districts 5 and 8 in Phoenix.”

The race is highlighted by Phoenix mayoral candidates Kate Gallego and Daniel Valenzuela. Neither candidate reached the majority threshold in the Nov. 6 election, which necessitated the special election.

District 5 will feature four candidates certified to the ballot – all women, including Audrey Bell-Jenkins, Betty Guardado, Vania Guevara and Lydia Hernandez.

There are seven candidates certified to the ballot in District 8, including Gilbert Arvizu, Carlos Garcia, Michael Johnson, Lawrence Robinson, Camaron Stevenson, Warren Stewart Jr. and Onesimus A. Stachan.

The election takes place Tuesday, March 12, but early voting centers will be open on Saturday, March 9 and Monday, March 11.

Lane told KTAR News 92.3 FM that starting Feb. 13, people on the permanent early voting list will start to receive their ballots.
