Customers of this Arizona utility can expect to see lower bills in April

PHOENIX — Arizona Public Service announced Thursday that it’s putting more money back in its customers’ pockets.

“We’re always looking for ways to keep electricity affordable, and thanks to federal tax reform, we’re able to take those savings and pass those right back to our customers,” APS spokeswoman Suzanne Trevino told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Thursday.

“Starting on April bills, our customers will begin to see an additional $2.50 savings for that customer using the average amount of electricity.”

APS began the reductions in March 2018, when it gave $114 million back to customers — an average of $5 per monthly bill.

Now, with this $86 million return, customers will see the additional savings on the “tax expense adjuster” portion of their bills.

Some customers may get more money back depending on how much electricity they use.

“If you are a larger user, if you have a bigger house, you are going to get a bigger savings, but every customer will see a lowering of their bill,” Trevino said.

The utility also reduced bills by an average of $3 per month last month due to lower operating costs.

Trevino said these efforts to make electricity more affordable go hand in hand with the utility’s 100 Days of Helping campaign, which works to prepare customers for the spike in costs caused by air conditioning in the summer.

“This is our effort to make sure that customers understand that we do have assistance programs if they qualify financially. We also have other opportunities for customers to save money on their bill,” she said.

“We have resources available and want to make sure that before the summer hits everyone knows that we’re in this together and we want to help our customers.”

APS serves about 2.7 million people in 11 of the state’s 15 counties.
