Crooks Fire burning near Prescott continues to grow without containment

PHOENIX — The Crooks Fire burning about 10 miles south of Prescott continues to grow without containment, authorities said Wednesday.

The blaze had engulfed 2,000 acres by 10 p.m. with evacuations still in place for several areas, according to InciWeb.

Windy conditions, which grounded aircraft on Tuesday, moved the fire into rugged terrain west of Senator Highway and northeast to Potato Patch, Walker and Breezy.

Two Type 2 Hand crews, five Type 1 Hotshot crews, 14 engines and five helicopters were battling the blaze.

Evacuations remain in effect for residents of Mount Union, Camp Kiva, Mount Tridal, Potato Patch, Breezy Pines and those on Walker Road south of Lynx Lake.

The blaze, the cause of which is undetermined, started Monday.
